I really love food. And as I've grown up I've come to really enjoy making food. There's something so fascinating about taking the same ingredients, like flour, eggs, sugar and salt, adding a few other items, changing the quantities and seeing what the result will be. And there's something about cooking and baking that is really soothing to me. I can get lost in kneading a yeast dough or watching the mixer spin. The kitchen is a steady constant that always yields a delicious reward.
Saturday style, refashioned skirt
I picked up a dress from the Old Navy clearance rack simply because I was drawn to the print. I noticed at the time that there were a bunch of the same dress on the rack in all different sizes but I didn't care and I bought it anyway. It was cheap! And I loved the stripes and color combination!
I wore the dress once and I hated it. I felt fat, the waist was too high, the neck was too big and the arms were gathered just below the elbow in just the wrong way that made everything on top look huge. Gross. I wasn't going to wear it ever again. A couple days ago I noticed it hanging in the closet and the thought of altering it popped into my head. Should I take it in, cut the sleeves? A skirt, how about that?! I ran off to get my pinking shears, I cut the bodice off and voila! Since it's knit I don't need to seam it and I've got a cute, casual drawstring skirt I love!
Gourmet, you say?
We did gourmet for sure last night. We made burgers topped with brie and truffle aioli. I made the buns, I packed the burgers, Thomas hand-cut the fries. And it was awesome. We picked up the book Burgers by Paul Gayler last weekend and I think we're going to be making a lot from in there.
Burgers is packed full of awesome gourmet burger ideas and not just with beef. There's salmon burgers, lamb, vegetarian and turkey burgers. Plus tons more. And even if you don't follow the recipe exactly this book is loaded with unique toppings and tasty inspiration. The Niçoise Crab Burger might just be next on my list! I highly recommend this book to anyone, because who doesn't love a good burger?? I certainly do!
